Whether Newark and Sherwood has an Article 4 direction on house shares.
Civil penalty policy
The council's policy sets how it decides the size of a fine. The version we found has been updated for the Renters' Rights Act.
Cabinet on 21 April 2026 ('Adoption of the Renters Rights Act 2025', key decision) approved an updated Private Sector Housing Enforcement Policy incorporating the Renters' Rights Act 2025 and 'the adoption of the Civil Financial Penalties Policy and associated penalty matrix to enable the Council to impose civil penalties for breaches under the new legislative framework', after a four-week consultation ending 6 April 2026 (democracy.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk). The policy (Appendix 2) applies £40,000 statutory maxima for offences with a civil penalties matrix. The older Corporate Enforcement Policy appendix (file dated March 2026) still states a £30,000 maximum.
